What is the Utah Music Teachers Association?UMTA is a nonprofit organization of over 600 music teachers, independent and collegiate, who share the vision of furthering the art of music through programs that encourage and support teaching and performance.
UMTA offers many benefits, programs and training that assists teachers to be successful and to create accomplished students.
UMTA puts teachers in touch with teacher. While sharing ideas, brainstorming, talking out problems and working out solutions, individual skills are enhanced and lifelong friends made.
UMTA understands the value of all teachers at all levels - those with great experience and training to those who are just entering the profession.
UMTA members are also members of MTNA. This affiliation allows us to be part of a nationwide network of professionals, dedicated to raising the standards of music teaching and performance in America.. Members receive The American Music Teacher, bi-monthly magazine, and can participate in all State and National programs offered.
MTNA offers free Legal Consulation and Insurance.
UMTA offers the following State Sponsored Programs: State Convention: a two day event, held each fall, designed to bring you the latest teaching ideas, techniques, and information, taught by respected authorities in the music field.
Achievement in Music-AIM: A teaching/testing program designed to help students attain a well-rounded music education. Guidebooks and information are available through local chapters. Students who successfully complete specific requirements will be inducted into FAIM, and given additional opportunities to perform.
State Auditions: Six competitions are available for students for elementary to collegiate levels. Students advance through state, division and national levels.
Performance Evaluations: A non-competitive opportunity for students to perform and be evaluated on a state level. Outstanding students will be spotlighted in an Honors Recital held during Convention. Participating teachers will be recognized.
Concerto Competition: An opportunity for students and teachers to participate with concerti on every level.
Certification: Teachers may become state and nationally certified through testing or education. Certification represents outstanding accomplishment and carries with it public and professional recognition.
Monthly meetings designed to meet the specific needs of members include activities such as, guest artists and lecturers, latest teaching techniques, group lesson ideas, recitals, ect.
Music periodicals available at excellent group rates.
Chapter sponsored recitals, Monster Concerts and Competitions.
Libraries with books and videos available to aid individual teachers.
Teacher referrals for those who may be relocating or adding to their studios.
