| A Brief History Of Riverton Music... Hal Rindlisbacher, a popular local band director, founded Riverton Music in 1968 when he converted an old chicken coop into an instrument repair facility. At first, Hal kept busy repairing instruments for students and friends, but soon customers were coming from all over the valley for his excellent and honest workmanship. When they started asking for his advice on purchasing instruments and supplies, Riverton Music became involved in sales. In 1978, a 2400 square foot building was constructed to house the growing retail business. Hal continued his successful band program at Kearns High during the day and opened for business after school and on weekends. Hal decided to take a year sabbatical from teaching in 1980 and devoted himself full time to his growing company. Much to his student's dismay, the music store began to take his full attention and time. Hal's oldest son, Kevin, joined Riverton Music in 1983. Kevin managed the financial affairs of the company while Hal serviced the customers. Under their partnership, the company began to grow rapidly. Kevin led the company on a controlled expansion plan in the mid-eighties. In 1984 a second location was opened in West Valley. The Salt Lake store opened in 1989 and in 1994 a fourth location opened in Sunset, Utah. Due to health reasons, Hal retired in 1992. Kevin later purchased the company from Hal. Feeling the need to better serve customers in West Valley, the old store on 3500 South was closed and plans were made for the new 14,000 square foot location on Bangerter Highway. In February 2002, after 33 years, the original Riverton Music was closed and replaced with the new Sandy store. Located at 9400 South and I-15, the new Sandy store has helped Riverton Music become one of the top 100 music retailers in the country. The new Salt Lake store on 700 East and I-80 followed shortly thereafter, continuing Riverton Music's commitment to better serve their customers.
